Monroe Style Improvising Course - The Inaugural
Throughout this 12 week intensive course, students will delve into a meticulous examination and exploration of fundamental principles essential to understadning Bill Monroe's improvisation. Central to this learning journey are the innovative modular devices - Staggered Arpeggios, The Bouncy Lick and The Slidey Lick, developed by Christopher Henry, which serve as the cornerstone for grapsing Monore's art. In this course these devices will be meticulously dissected and demonstrated inititally in their rudimentary forms. Then students will be empowered to customize and adapt them to suit specific tunes, chords, or improvisational concepts. Participants not only learn these devices but also gain proficiency in modulating them to align seamlessly with their own creative inclinations while remaining true to the essence of the melody. This is a unique and boundless opportunity for musicians to deepen their understanding of the bluegrass tradition while forging personal connections to it, regardless of their starting point in their musical journey.
